I am sick and tired of all these people telling me how to use Twitter for business. It is because of these people that I get spam followed by at least 10 companies a day, each one hoping that I follow them back. Well you know what, I’m tired of advocating Twitter for business. It’s time to advocate something new and equally beneficial. It’s time to promote some Twitter Loving!

I have a theory that dates are getting more and more casual. No longer do you have to go up to the girl’s parents and ask them for permission to take them out. Well, actually… I’ve never done that myself. Here’s a better example: When I “pick up” a girl (Gosh, why does that sound so sleezy now? Thanks VH1), I’ll usually meet her in person first, get her number, and ask her out to coffee/dinner, depending on how I feel. But lets say you’re looking for something super casual. Lets say you’re looking to meet someone completely out of your network who hopefully has similar interests to you. Well, Twitter is the perfect app for you, and you don’t even know it yet!

Ok, now that I have you all revved up to start amplifying your dating life, here are the 5 steps to improving your love life through Twitter:

1. An up-close and personal thumbnail

Step 1 is to optimize your thumbnail and show off that beautiful face of yours. Choose a picture of your face that is up-close and personal. Make sure that people can actually tell what you look like. And please, by no means use a Myspace-angles picture. Twitter folk are smart and will not fall for those dirty tricks. If for some unfortunate reason a person does get duped, then you can bet they’ll Tweet about your deception.

2. Your personal Web Url

Don’t use your company website. You want to offer Tweeple a deeper insight of yourself. The best site to put on your Twitter page is your personal blog. Don’t have a personal blog? Then make one.

Every time I get friended by someone, I always check their website url before deciding to friend them back. I’m sure I’m not the only person who does this, so make sure your personal blog has some really good and interesting things about you that will make a person intrigued to meet you.

3. Your profile page should dress to impress

Just check out Shama’s Twitter profile: http://twitter.com/shamahyder. Now that is visually appealing! I am compelled to follow her because she has a nice little bio about herself, has a nice picture of herself, and definitely seems open, welcome, and friendly. If she were to randomly follow me, I wouldn’t at all feel like she was a stalker; but rather, someone who is looking to make a new friend and connection.

4. Use http://TwitDir.com to find people near you

http://search.twitter.com is great to find people of similar interests, but what good is finding someone of similar interest when they’re not near you? Well, there’s a lot of good reasons to just meet people, but we’re trying to find a casual date here. Use TwitDir and search “within locations” to find people in your city. Then all you have to do is find someone who looks interesting to you and start following them.

5. Don’t just follow; rather, follow with an @ + interesting Tweet

When you approach a girl (or if you’re a girl, when you approach a guy), you don’t just immediately ask for her number or name. You have to first build credibility, demonstrate high value, and show that you’re not just another creepy dude hitting on her. So far, we have set you up with an open and friendly Twitter profile, and located people near you who are interesting. Now it’s time for the close.

Find someone who you’d like to meet and wait till they have a very interesting Tweet. Ex: “Cooking some yummy ramen tonight. Wonder what movie I’ll be putting into the DVD player?” So this is your perfect setup to Follow and send an @ reply: “Don’t forget to add the katsubushi to the ramen. Makes it extra good! You can never go wrong w/ Kung Fu Panda.” I guarantee you that she’ll pay attention, look at your profile, blog, and then respond.

It’s all up to you now. I have shown you how to get a friendly and welcoming opening that allows you to start a genuine conversation with someone interesting. Now it’s up to you to take it from there.
