iPhone Signal Icon – Please Help!

I have been trying to figure out what this little icon means on my iPhone 3G – Does anyone know!? Please help!

The only clue I can give you is that the signal seems to be of lower quality when I do notice it. The other caller’s voices begin to get choppy, and eventually a dropped call seems to be the end result!

The icon is where the 3G Icon would be. So im guessing it means you dont have 3G signal when it shows.

Maybe roaming? I haven't seen it myself, and a quick check in David Pogue's "iPhone; The Missing Manual" doesn't seem to reveal it either, but it is 359 pages- I might have missed it in there.

Have you trolled the Apple or other discussion groups? If there's an iPhone geek at the local AT&T shop, or better yet, go see the nearest Genius Bar if there's an Apple Store nearby.

I'm curious- post when you get an answer!
